So sorry. ECT was suggested after trying many meds. It has been very helpful. I have a fantastic therapist, who's a psychiatrist, and another psychiatrist who prescribes my meds. It's a good team. Sounds like you should talk to a psychiatrist. Do you have one?

I just read your piece on when you first had ECT. I have been taking anti-depressants and going to therapy for 24 years, since my husband of 9 years died from lymphoma and left me alone to raise 3 healthy children and care for a son who was dying from a genetic brain disorder. My son passed away at age 6 and for a while my depression, of course, became worse. It has been 22 years since then and I have seen many therapists and been blessed to have married off my surviving 3 children. I AM EVEN MORE DEPRESSED THAN EVER. BEING AN EMPTY NESTER is MISERY. What type of therapist suggested ECT to you? I have seen psychologists and social workers over the years and I am still left with the question, WHY AM ALIVE? I would appreciate your advice as to what type of therapist has worked for you. BTW, I am 58 years old and Shomer Shabbos for 39 years.
